"Apna koi" (Hindi phrase) is a term of endearment, used when referring to a loved one.
|
|
|
|
When creating apnakoi.com, we wanted to build a social matchmaking site that was
designed specifically for the Gen Y 'Desi' (shorthand for someone from – or tracing their
heritage to - the Indian-Sub Continent). And in doing so, we wanted to plug as many holes
as we could spot in the user experience across conventional matrimonial websites, that
spoke more to parents and family elders, than to the potential couple.

We are confident we can carve out a niche for ourselves, especially amongst the confident
and self-assured Gen Y Desi who increasingly wants to take control of the single most
important decision of their lives.
|

|
|
Conventional matrimonial websites are cluttered with excessive navigation; offer gratuitous
features that add little value; and, often come with a high price tag ('apnakoi' is a FREE
service).
|
|
|
|
With the user interface, our obsession with simplicity has helped keep the site design
clutter-free. And our functionality centres around features that help build trust and
credibility amongst users, through our integration with social networks like Facebook for
referee comments.

What if you could introduce your wider social network of family and friends to your potential match? We’ve made it possible for members to invite their Facebook friends to post referee comments that appear on their apnakoi.com profiles. Anyone reading these comments can click on the referee’s name to view their public Facebook profile.
Of course, we want you to have fun too. We’ve built a profiling tool that will help you determine your Bollywood persona. Along with a description of your persona, it describes your ideal match too. apnakoi.com will be running desi speed dating events, starting with Melbourne and Sydney in the first half of 2009. Cities on our calendar for the second half of the year include Mumbai, New Delhi and London. More cities will be added in 2009.

apnakoi.com has been created by Australia-based Vineet Malhotra and Priya Malhotra.The site was inspired in part by the plight of their single friends, who freely shared horror stories experienced at other matrimonial websites.
